Services: The Public Works Department provides the following essential services to our citizens.

1. Drinking Water: The City obtains its drinking water from the Floridan Aquifer. Potable water facilities include six (6) groundwater wells, three aeration towers, two ground storage tanks, one elevated storage tank, and seven high service pumps. The water is treated and disinfected prior to being pumped into the distribution system. We constantly test the water to ensure its quality and compliance with regulatory requirements. A Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is mailed to all customers once per year detailing many of the analyses performed.

2. Sanitary Sewer: The City has over 29 miles of residential and commercial sanitary sewer lines ranging from 4” to 18” in size and owns and operates 16 wastewater pumping stations (lift stations). There are three lift stations in Primera, five in Timacuan, two master lift stations on Rinehart Road, and one each at the following locations: 4th Street, The Forest, Lake Mary Prep, Manderley, Woodbridge and Lake Mary Boulevard. The wastewater is treated at the Seminole County Greenwood Lakes Wastewater Treatment Facility.

3. Storm Sewer: The City has over 23 miles of storm sewer pipes ranging from 15” to 48” in diameter and 20 retention ponds.  All paved roads with curb and gutter have storm inlets and storm sewers. Streets without curb and gutter have roadside swales collecting and conveying storm water either through ditch bottom inlets and storm sewers or directly to small retention ponds. Two tributaries of Soldiers Creek flow through the south-central part of Lake Mary between Longwood-Lake Mary Road and South Country Club Road. Some of these areas are in the flood zone with many adjacent wetlands. The St. Johns River Water Management District and Florida Department of Environmental Protection regulate and permit all storm water ponds.

4. Solid Waste: Lake Mary has a franchise agreement with Waste Management, Inc. of Florida to pick up residential and commercial solid waste.  They also provide residential recycling services.

5. Road and Sidewalk Repair and Maintenance: Public Works repairs potholes and minor road damage on all City roads. We have paved over 22 miles of roadway since 1996.

6. Mosquito Control: That service is now provided by Seminole County.  If you have any mosquito-related concerns, you may contact them at 407-665-5542, or by e-mail to mosquito@seminolecountyfl.gov

Their office hours are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday and calls received after hours will be returned the next business day.  The County will then generate a work order, inspect the area within 48 hours and provide the appropriate treatment.
