There are many different types of businesses from preschools to dance studios to doctors offices and they all have different needs and requirements. In an effort to help new and perspective business owners get started, the City of Lake Mary created a program called the "First Step Process". This process allows the business owner or developer to meet with all the City departments (Zoning, Building, Fire, and Public Works) at once to have all their questions answered. The Fire Department does not provide or recertify fire extinguishers. You will need to call a local fire extinguisher company to have them recertified.

We are looking for many fire and life safety hazards or anything that has the potential to be a hazard to employees, visitors or responding emergency personnel. While every building and business is different due to the operation and contents, we have assembled a list of the most common things we look for. We understand that some detectors are located very high on ceilings or residents are physically unable to check their alarms, so we will be happy to assist you with checking your alarm and/or changing the battery.
