Provided is a partial list of items we will look at during our annual fire inspection of a commercial building. This list contains the most common issues and is meant to help you prepare for an inspection. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Fire Prevention Office at 407-585-1364.
- Address is clearly posted and visible from the street.
- All fire protection systems, hydrants and backflow preventers have been tested and inspected.
- Exit and emergency lighting is functional in both AC and DC modes.
- Exit corridors are clear and Exit signage visible
- Stairwells are clear (no prohibited storage in the area).
- Doors function properly. No illegal bars or chains are present.
- All fire extinguishers are currently certified, accessible and spaced properly.
- No storage in electrical rooms.
- No "piggy backing" of surge protectors; overloaded electrical sockets; all cover plates are present.
- No candles (open flame) in use.
- No blocking of any fire protection equipment.
- Fire alarm devices are not blocked; pull stations accessible.
- Kitchen systems tagged every six months.
- Occupant loads are posted (where applicable).
- Fire drills have been conducted (log).
- Signage is provided where required. (Shunts, main disconnects, etc).
- Hydrant markers are present. Proper clearance to hydrants is maintained.
- Fire lanes are proper and not blocked.
- Gates function properly.
- Truss markings are present where applicable.
